🐰 Bunny Care Guide

Welcome to the wonderful world of bunny ownership! Rabbits are intelligent, affectionate, and curious animals that make delightful companions when cared for properly. This guide covers all the basics to help you give your bunny a happy, healthy life.

🏡 Housing & Environment

Indoor Living:
We strongly recommend keeping your bunny indoors where they’re safe from predators, extreme weather, and parasites. A spacious pen or bunny-proofed room works well.

Space Requirements:
Your bunny needs space to hop, stretch, and explore. Provide at least 16 square feet of enclosure space with 24 square feet of exercise space outside the enclosure.

Bunny-Proofing Tips:

  • Cover or block off electrical cords.

  • Keep houseplants out of reach (many are toxic).

  • Remove access to small spaces where bunnies could get stuck.

🥗 Diet & Nutrition

Hay:
Fresh hay (timothy, orchard grass, or meadow hay) should make up 80–90% of your bunny’s diet. It keeps their digestive system healthy and helps prevent dental issues.

Pellets:
Choose a high-quality pellet such as our recommended Producers Pride Rabbit Feed from Tractor Supply. Feed about 1/4 cup per 5 lbs of body weight daily, unless otherwise advised.

Fresh Greens:
Offer a variety of fresh, bunny-safe greens daily (e.g., romaine lettuce, cilantro, parsley). Introduce new veggies slowly, and only after they have had time to transition into their new homes.

Treats:
Use fruits or sugary vegetables sparingly as treats (e.g., banana, apple slices, carrots) after 6 months of age. Avoid processed or sugary treats.

Water:
Fresh water should always be available. A bowl is often more natural for rabbits than a bottle. Be sure to use a heavy ceramic dish to avoid spills.

🧹 Litter Training

Bunnies are naturally clean animals and can be litter trained easily. All of our buns leave here litter box training and doing great! Use a litter box filled with paper-based or wood based litter (see our recommended products page). Place hay in the box — bunnies often eat and go at the same time!

💕 Socialization & Enrichment

Bonding:
Bunnies are social animals. They love companionship — either with their human family or another bunny (after proper introductions).

Toys:
Offer chew toys, cardboard boxes, tunnels, and paper towel rolls. Rotate them regularly to prevent boredom.

Handling:
Support their back legs when picking them up. Always be gentle and let your bunny come to you on their own terms.

🐾 Grooming & Health

Brushing:
Long-haired breeds require daily grooming. Short-haired breeds should be brushed weekly to reduce shedding and hairballs.

Nail Trims:
Trim nails regularly — usually every 4–6 weeks. All buns leave here freshly groomed with trimmed nails. Check out our grooming video on facebook for detailed instructions.

Veterinary Care:

  • Annual checkups are important.

  • Spaying/neutering helps with behavior and prevents certain health issues.

  • Watch for signs of illness: lethargy, loss of appetite, changes in droppings, or tooth grinding.

🚗 Transport & Pickup

For safety, we do not allow visits to our home. However, we’re happy to provide plenty of photos and videos. Bunny pickups are scheduled at public meeting location for the safety of our animals and your family.

❤️ Final Thoughts

Rabbits can live up to 10 years or longer with proper care. They’re more than pets — they’re family. By providing the right diet, environment, and love, your bunny will thrive and bring joy for years to come.
